Kissa Tea Room, Gion

Best matcha in Gion 🍵 — go at 10am sharp, before the queue starts.

Location 01

Kissa Tea Room, Gion

Hidden behind a nondescript wooden door, this 100-year-old tea room serves the most velvet matcha I've ever tasted.

Rosa's tip

"Bring cash for the traditional tea ceremony. Many tourists miss this because they only carry cards!"

Cost

¥1,800 for the full ceremony.

The Silent Forest Path, Arashiyama

Early morning walks here changed my entire trip.

Location 02

The Silent Forest Path, Arashiyama

Skip the Arashiyama crowds. This alternative bamboo path 2km north offers the same beauty with absolute silence.

Rosa's tip

"Arrive before 7am for empty photos. The light is buttery and gold."

Cost

Free — consider a ¥500 donation to the temple preservation fund.
